The comments we received

We got nice comments for our presentation from our classmates and our teacher.

We received a lot of praise that the video was good.
Some of them said the methods to accomplish our goals are realistic(installing a hotline for addicted gamblers etc...), and our presentation was easy to understand.

Our teacher told us that the video was a bit monotonous and gambling was regarded as too much fun.

Considering his advise, we should have shot more scenes and made the video a little more serious by shooting a scene of SangGi's being depressed.

Presentation for our NGO

We did a presentation to introduce a NGO, SAG(Supporting Addicted gamblers) that we had newly established.

Our mission statement is to support and aid people who are addicted to gambling. Finally, We would like to cure every addicted gamblers in the world.

Here is the slideshow. If you have free time, please check it out!

Answer for question part5

Q.20 Do schools in Japan teach about gambling?
Q.21 If so, how do they teach about it? If not, why?

First, I explain the reason why I questioned this. Although I have never been taught about gambling in school, I wonder there are some schools in Japan which teach about gambling.
That's why, I researched this question.
In Japan, dangerousness of smoking and alcohol is taught at schools. For example, by showing a picture of a highly dameged lung or liver. However, dangers of gaming isn't taught at schools in Japan.
There aren't any websites written about the reason gambling isn't taught at schools in Japan.
I wonder why they don't teach about gambling as well as smoking and drinking. The possibilities that people get addicted to gambling are as high as the one of smoking and drinking.

Review of a movie

Terror of gambling (Review of Rounders)

Shuhei

Rounder means a person who makes a living from gambling. This movie is about them. Mike, who is a main character of this movie, has enough talent for Texas poker to earn money for college. Because of his loss of $30,000, he tries to quit gambling and concentrates on school work. However, when his friend, Worm who is also good at poker comes out of prison, he asked Mike to play poker with him. Mike ends up playing poker and he can't quit it. He is completely addicted to it. Then Worm gets Mike in trouble and they get a loan of $15,000 from a bad guy named KGB. In order to pay back a debt, they try to win the money they lost in a poker game. Finally, Mike challenges KGB to a poker game and wins. After paying back his debt, he goes to Las Vegas at last.

I have learned two things from this movie. First, this movie tells us that gambling addiction is really terrible. In this movie, for example, Mike couldnt get out of gambling addiction even if he lost all of his money and his girl friend told him not to play a poker game. I think people who are addicted to gambling dont learn anything from their failure like Mike. As you see in the last scene, he goes to Las Vegas despite there being possibility of his loss of money.

Second, on the other hand, I was really impressed with the depth of a poker game. If there were casinos in Japan and I could play poker or other games, I might be addicted to it. Before watching this movie, I had thought that all of the gambling games including Texas poker are all a matter of luck. However, I learned that poker takes special skills, such as judging others hands from their faces, behaviors or stakes. Moreover, World Series of Poker Main Event is held every year in Las Vegas. If I acquired these skills, it would be fun for me to play a poker game.

In this movie, there is a focus on success in poker rather than gambling addiction. However, I was more impressed by terrors of gambling addiction. Its not always true that they can win a poker game, even if they have enough skills for that. There are still possibilities of their loss. That's why they should be careful not to be addicted to it. If they owe money, and in order to pay back their debt, they owe money again and spend it on gambling. As just described, they fall into the vicious circle. In this movie, Mike could get out of the circle, but, I think, he would be caught in it again because he went to Las Vegas at the last scene of this movie. For these things, I can know how it is awful to be addicted to gambling.

Answer for the question part4

Q7 Why gambling such as pachinko or horse racing is legal in Japan?

First, pachinko isn't seen as a gambling, but play by Japanese law. However, it is still illegal to be exchanged for cash in a pachinko parlor by the law. So, how can it get around the law?
In Japan, there are two other kinds of stores which are connected to a pachinko parlor. First one is a store where you can exchange goods, which you get at a pachinko parlor as a prize, for money. Second one is a store where the first store sells the goods. Then, a pachinko buys the goods. That's how, they can get around the law. (As people don't change money at a pachinko parlor, pachinko is legal.)

Horse racing is apparently a gambling, but it is also legal in Japan. So, why?
In Japan, horse racing, boat racing and bicycle racing are official game which is allowed by the Japanese government. Moreover, the revenue of these games is used for local government. That's why, these games are legal in Japan.
